If you are 16 years of age or older, you are eligible to get a Learners Permit to allow you to drive while supervised by a fully licenced driver. A Learner Permit Test must be passed to receive a Learner Permit, these tests can be taken at almost any VicRoads office. To help study for the Learner Test the "Road to Solo Driving" handbook can be a great resource. Once you have obtained a Learners Permit, you are legally allowed to drive on Australian roads with a supervised driver. This is where Conan Drive can help. As of the 1st July 2007 all learner drivers must complete a logbook as proof of 120 hours of driving. |

| It is usually best to get lessons early into your driving experience to help you get a solid foundation to start from. This does not mean that you need to take lessons from start to finish while on a learners permit. When you get a Learners Permit, take some lessons to learn the correct way to drive. If needed, take some time away from lessons to see how other cars feel. As it comes closer to your licence test, start taking lessons again to make sure you are still driving safely and efficiently without any developed habits. A big mistake made by learner drivers is to try and book their drive test with only one week's notice. Most VicRoads offices have at least a 4 to 6 week wait for drive tests which greatly decreases the chance of getting your preferred time or day and instructor due to other bookings. Driving instructors are also useful if you or no one around you has a car that you can learn to drive in. Not all Learner Drivers have parents to teach them or even know anyone with a car. With all circumstances in mind, Conan Drive is here to help. Driving instruction for most people starts off with a short lesson to familiarise themselves to their instructor and the car. After the first lesson the instructor will advise the learner of the progress made and the progress needed. This could include a suggested lesson schedule like the following examples. A number of learner drivers benefit from a series of lessons to make sure they understand the System of Car Control. Lessons can then become very sparse until 3 weeks before the test booking, then longer lessons once or twice a week (depending on your circumstances) are helpful to help get the full reward from lessons. Other learner drivers do not need many lessons as they have great experience elsewhere. After a short first lesson with a driving instructor, the learner is advised that they do not require any more teaching lessons. They have the option of waiting for their test or continuing lessons until their test, whichever is preferred by the learner, as they have already proven their ability. |
