Learner Drivers

Beginner Experienced P-Plate

If you are at least 18 years of age and have held your Learner Permit for a certain amount of time (depending on when you aquired your Learner Permit, your age or if you are a permanent resident) you can start to prepare for your driving test. This does not mean "Go out and book your test", this simply means that you should now know how to complete all "Low Speed Manoeuvres" and how to obey all road rules, lines, signs and traffic lights.

As of the 1st July 2007 all learner drivers must complete a logbook as proof of 120 hours of driving.

At this stage of your learner driver experience you should now be able to lane change without help, negotiate traffic lights and intersections safely, choose appropriate travelling speeds for all roads (it is not always correct to travel close to the speed limit on all roads), and drive safely with other road users. If some of these are still hard or you are still needing assistance, then make sure you full understand what to do and feel confident in these areas before booking your test.
