If you are reading this page, you must believe that you are ready for your Licence Test. To proceed from a Learner Permit or Overseas Licence you must complete two tests to get your Probationary Licence. First is the Hazard Perception Test. Second is the Practical Drive Test. Hazard Perception Test The Hazard Perception Test is a computer based test that must be completed before moving to the drive test. As the name suggests, this test is to show that you can identify potential hazards while driving. This is not a Q&A test, this is a visual test where an on-screen car drives down a road with the potential for a hazard to occur. If a hazard does occur the mouse button must be pressed. |

| Practical Drive Test The Practical Drive Test is designed to show that the driver can safely and legally drive on Australian roads. Drive tests must be performed at a VicRoads office, using a set test route to maintain a fair test to all drivers. All tests follow a standard known as the GLS Test Standard (Graduated Licensing System)(starting 1st July 2008), this helps to make all road users become safe drivers, and shows 120 hours of driving practice from the Learner. For some extra information about the driving level required for attempting the drive test VicRoads has designed a booklet called the "What you need to know" booklet. The Drive Test is broken into two stages. Stage one is a basic drive, testing on reasonably quiet roads, looking for car control and safety. Stage one takes about 10 minutes to complete. Stage two is a more involved test. The Learner is taken to more populated roads, and asked to complete a number of tasks that a driver would see almost everyday. This is still to observe safety and car control is more complex situations. Stage two takes about 20 minutes to complete. |
